NCSD At 15 Event

November 14, 2024

The Morrow Hotel

Washington, DC

Join us for NCSD At 15: "Reflecting on Our Legacy, Building Our Future," a reception and appreciation event for NCSD and Phil Tegeler.

Main event contact: Contact Gina Chirichigno at gchirichigno@prrac.org with any questions.

As we commemorate Brown v. Board of Education at 70 years, Title VI of the Civil Rights Act at 60 years, and Milliken v. Bradley at 50 years, NCSD proudly celebrates its 15th anniversary this year. Founded in 2009 by nine civil rights organizations, including the Poverty & Race Research Action Council (PRRAC) under the leadership of Phil Tegeler, NCSD emerged as a united voice advocating for racial diversity and equity in education. The coalition was born out of the historic amicus effort in Parents Involved in Community Schools v. Seattle School District No. 1 and the recognition by the Supreme Court that reducing racial isolation and promoting school diversity are compelling government interests.

Join us as we celebrate NCSD's legacy, as well as the legacy of founding member and policy advisor to NCSD, Phil Tegeler, who is also retiring this year. The event will feature key speakers involved in NCSD’s founding to reflect on the arc of the coalition and movement for school integration over the last three presidential administrations, with particular emphasis on the contributions of Phil Tegeler and PRRAC.
